How do I choose a Sponsored Learning Community?

At MU, new students are assigned to the residence halls using their community preference first, then by amenity preferences. In order to help ensure the success and personal development of our students, we keep the focus on the communities, not the buildings.

How to select and enroll in your community:

  1. Check all of the communities that interest you on the Residence Hall Application (no limit).
  2. You will receive information about living-learning communities in the mail; however, you can also learn about Sponsored Learning Communities and Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs) on the Web at http://reslife.missouri.edu/housing2/slc.htm.
  3. Receive New Student Registration & Orientation Guide (NSRO) in early March. If you have submitted your residence hall application, you will also receive your residence hall contract.
  4. Select your top 6 choices of communities and select your meal plan.
  5. Return NSRO scanform and Residence Hall Contract with $300 prepayment by April 15 Deadline.
  6. Receive Residence Hall Assignment in early June.
  7. Check the Residential Life website for assignment.
  8. Attend Summer Welcome session.
  9. Receive final confirmation of residence hall and roommate assignment around August 1.
  10. Move into the residence halls.
