The Prevet Learning Community is designed for students interested in exploring the field of veterinary medicine. This community offers support and opportunities for academic and professional growth through activities specifically designed for students. In addition, it allows pre-veterinary students to live and learn with others who share their academic interests.

Unique Community Features

• Day trips to MU’s Large Animal Clinic and Equine Medical Center
• Visits to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, including participation in the annual Vet School Open House
• Interaction with veterinary teaching hospital staff
• Volunteer projects with the local Humane Society and Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center
• Dinner with faculty
• Involvement in Pre-Vet Club, Block & Bridle, 4H and FFA

Community Goals

The Animal Sciences Unit and Residential Life established this student-based Learning Community for students who are dedicated to pursuing a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. In this community, students will:

• Pursue academic excellence through the support of highly motivated peers in the community
• Develop team building skills as they work collaboratively on course assignments and group projects
• Explore the myriad of career choices available to students with a dvm or other postgraduate training
• Be exposed to field experience to help them gain admission to the Veterinary School
• Stay focused and motivated as an MU student

Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs)

The Pre-Veterinary Medicine Learning Community also houses freshman interest groups (FIGs) that relate to its overall goals and objectives. Pre-Veterinary Medicine has had two general-interest FIGs as part of this Learning Community.
