The Wakonse: Service & Leadership Learning Community

Wakonse is a word from the Lakota Indian language meaning “to teach” or “to inspire.” Wakonse residents are people-oriented, service-minded and academically-focused students who are committed to creating a fun and supportive community for residents. This community is open to undergraduate students of all majors.

The Wakonse Learning Community holds values that stem from a philosophy of lifelong learning. Students in this community:


Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs)

The Wakonse Learning Community also houses freshman interest groups (FIGs) that relate to its overall goals and objectives.

Please note: The nature and availability of specific figs may change in order to adapt to the needs of both the Learning Community and participating students.
