Given the shooting at Virginia Tech last spring and the concern for safety at college campuses across the country, I believe it's important to re-emphasize our commitment to student safety and security.
Within the residence halls at Mizzou, we have the ability to lock down every exterior door within minutes. In addition, we have student and professional staff who are trained regularly on how to address crises when they happen. Student and professional staff are trained to deal with a wide range of emergencies and crises from severe weather (which can be fairly common in mid-Missouri) to community disturbances and evacuations.

All MU students should also be aware that, in addition to other forms of communication, the University has a website dedicated to conveying critical information in times of emergency or disruption of normal activities.
Please know that we are dedicated to student success at MU and first and foremost, that means we are committed to student safety.
If you have questions about what you or your fellow residents should do in the event of a similar emergency, feel free to contact your Hall Coordinator, who can answer specific questions about your hall.
Sincerely,
Frankie D. Minor, Director
