  • You should expect a lot of traffic around the residence halls when you arrive during Move-In. Some campus streets will be designated for one-way traffic to accommodate for unloading zones. Follow the posted signs and MUPD Campus Safety Officers' directions to reach your assigned hall. You will receive a 20-minute unloading card that you must fill out completely and place in a visible place on your vehicle dashboard while sitting in a temporary unloading zone. THERE IS NO PARKING ALLOWED IN THE UNLOADING ZONES.
  • Please keep in mind that many residents will be unloading and moving in at the same time. DO NOT pull into a circle drive if it is full of cars. Blocking drives is a traffic violation, and you will be asked to move immediately. DO NOT pull up in a handicapped space or onto a sidewalk or the grass to unload. Vehicles in fire lanes or handicapped spaces (without permit), on the grass or blocking driving lanes will be ticketed and TOWED.
  • It is not possible to accommodate everyone's vehicle in the unloading zone closest to the building (you won't be able to back up to the front door). Plan to unload your items onto the sidewalk or grass as near the building as possible and move your vehicle immediately after it's unloaded to make room for another vehicle to unload. Once your vehicle is unloaded, please move it to a designated parking area (refer to maps above) within the 20-minute time period, and have a family member stay with your belongings by the curb as you begin to move them into the hall. If you unload or park in a metered space, you are responsible for paying the meter. The unloading/parking permit does not exempt you from paying to park in metered spaces.
  • If your family is coming in multiple vehicles, the student should check in first while the loaded vehicle finds a space in the unloading zone near the hall. Other vehicles should be parked in designated parking areas (refer to maps above), which may be a few blocks away from the residence hall.
  • Check in at the desk BEFORE you unload your entire vehicle onto the lawn/sidewalk to make sure you're in the right place. Be sure to ask a staff member which hall entrance is closest to your room so your family can take the most direct route via stairwell or elevator. Plan to wait for elevators for your heavier loads and use the stairs as much as possible for lighter loads. This proven method will help you, your family and your future neighbors move in as quickly as possible!

  • Residential Life appreciates your compliance with the above unloading and parking procedures. Following these rules helps the move-in process go more smoothly for all residents.

Residents and parents are expected to follow the instructions of MUPD Campus Safety Officers and Residential Life staff during Move-In Day.
