Students are required to follow all Residential Life policies during the Residence Hall contract period. To start on a positive note, please adhere to these policies as you personalize and decorate your living space. Click on the links below to view the full policies.
Decorating Policy
Residential Life encourages residents to personalize their living spaces. However, all decorations must follow the guidelines outlined in the official Decorating Policy. These guidelines were created to protect residents from injury and to avoid fees associated with damages from decorating. Before you decorate your space, please read over the full policy and refer to it when you plan to decorate for special occasions like holidays and MU events (games, Homecoming, etc.).

Approved Adhesives
An important component of the Decorating Policy is the use of approved adhesives for hanging decorations on residence hall room walls or doors. By using approved products, residents can avoid damage fees at the end of the contract period.
Residents in halls with block walls may only use 3M Command Adhesives to hang items on walls and doors.
Residents in halls with drywall constructed walls may only use tacks, pins or small nails to hang items on walls and only 3M Command Adhesives to hang items on doors.
3M Command Adhesive products are available at University Bookstore and other local retailers.
Transparent tape, staples and other fasteners may not be used.
WHY? Gum-type adhesives leave an oily residue; any other type of tape can damage or remove the paint from the wall. If the walls must be repainted, the residents of the room may be charged for the damage.
Painting Policy
Residents in MU residence halls have the opportunity to paint their rooms in a standard color (see the link below) with paint and materials supplied free of charge. Only MU-provided paint from the Paint Room in Wolpers Hall may be used. Residents who want to use non-approved colors must receive permission from their Hall Coordinator, must pay a fee for darker pigment paints and are responsible for repainting the room at the conclusion of the contract period (or repainting charges will apply). Some MU residence halls do not permit rooms to be painted. See the full Painting Policy for details.

Lofting Policy
Residential Life does not encourage building lofts in MU residence halls. However, if you choose to build a loft, it must follow the guidelines of the Lofting Policy, and it must be built according to the loft design plans approved for your hall. If residents install a loft that does not meet these guidelines or design parameters, they will be required to remove the loft from the residence hall and may face disciplinary action.
Lofts are strictly prohibited in the following halls:
