Preparing the Room for Check OutDuring the summer Residential Life offers camps and conferences use of residence halls, mostly to subsidize the cost of housing to our students. Therefore, before checking out of the residence hall, students need to be sure their room is ready for the student staff member's inspection.
Cleaning CleaningStudents need to clean their room thoroughly, making sure to:
Students whose rooms are not properly cleaned upon check out will be charged a cleaning fee. Roommates should talk about how to divide the cleaning responsibilities, especially if one has plans to move out before the other. Cleaning charges, as well as damage charges, will be divided evenly among all roommates unless one roommate claims responsibility for the charges or Residential Life staff can determine which roommate is responsible. Prior to checkout, students must also be sure to remove all personal belongings form the room. Staff will not check a room for damages if a student still has belongings in the room. If a resident is not ready for their selected check out time, s/he will need to find a new time slot or choose the express check out option (click here for more information about how to check out). If students leave belongings behind (either in the room or in the hallway), they can be charged an additional fee for removing these items as well. PaintingStudents who painted their rooms a non-standard paint color will need to paint it back to a standard color prior to checking out. Students who have not re-painted their rooms will be charged a fee for repainting the room. Bunking the bedsIn some buildings, students will need to bunk their beds prior to leaving. Your students should check with their hall's front desk to determine whether their bed should be left bunked or un-bunked. If needed, bunking pins will be available at the front desk. Bunking the beds in these buildings helps Residential Life prepare for the summer camps and conference season, which will earn additional revenue to reduce housing costs throughout the academic year. |
