How can I avoid cleaning charges when I move out?

Just follow these cleaning steps before checking out:

  1. Remove tape residue from room doors
    • Use Window Cleaner and a plastic scraper. Anything not placed on the door by the university (fire instructions, etc) should be removed from both sides of the door.
    • Spray the door with window cleaner and let the liquid sit for three minutes.
    • Scrape the affected areas. This process has been tested and works.
  2. Rooms should be swept and mopped. Furniture should be moved and the floor underneath cleaned.
  3. Closet floors and shelves should be wiped down. Any contact paper should be removed from closet doors unless it is in good condition.
  4. Furniture should be cleaned. This includes inside drawers and the exterior of the furniture itself.
  5. Bookshelves should be wiped down.
  6. Check with the front desk to find out if beds should be left bunked or un-bunked.
  7. 3M Command adhesive should NOT be removed. Building staff will come in later to properly remove the adhesive. Damages caused by improper removal will result in damage charges.

Supplies will be located at each front desk for room door cleaning. Trash bags are also available at front desks.
